A man has been arrested after Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused during the opening match of the Premier League at Anfield. Friday's game with current champions Liverpool was briefly halted in the 29th minute after Semenyo flagged it up to the referee.

The Cherries’ 4–2 defeat to Liverpool was temporarily halted midway through the first half after Semenyo reported hearing racist abuse from a supporter inside Anfield. The fan in question was subsequently removed from the game, police have confirmed.

Friday's opening match of the season was paused after visiting forward Semenyo reported alleged abuse from the stands.
