Wentz played with considerable pain in his left (non-throwing) shoulder for more than half of his five starts, according to the Vikings' website.

The Minnesota Vikings placed quarterback Carson Wentz on injured reserve on Monday after he gutted out a shoulder injury during the last 2 1/2 games of his five-game fill-in for J.J. McCarthy.

He was in clear pain during Thursday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and eventually exited the game.
