Liverpool have opened talks with Palace for their club captain and hope to strike terms for a fee in the region of £35m. Talks between the two clubs are being held first before Liverpool approach Guehi out of respect between the two boards. The Reds' move could flush out other suitors, which include Newcastle United.

Palace captain Guehi has a year left on his contract, but chairman Steve Parish said earlier this week he could be sold this summer to avoid him moving on a free transfer in 12 months' time. Sources have told BBC Sport that Liverpool have held initial talks with a view to signing the 25-year-old before the summer transfer window shuts.
