The Michigan Wolverines have mostly been seen as a middle-of-the-road team since losing the Oklahoma on the road earlier in the season, a belief reinforced with their loss to USC two weeks ago in Los Angeles.

The Battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy renews on Saturday night as the No. 25 Michigan Wolverines (5-2) visit the Michigan State Spartans (3-4) at Spartan Stadium with a 3-1 Big Ten Conference record as part of a seven-team logjam tied for third place.

Michigan is ranked No. 21 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll as well as the AP Top 25. Yet, in Brandon Marcello's CBS power rankings, though they moved up two spots, the Wolverines are sitting at No. 23.

BYU remained unbeaten after defeating Iowa State 41-27. The No. 11-ranked Cougars improved to 8-0 and are still tied atop the Big 12 standings (5-0) with Cincinnati after overcoming a 14-point deficit in the first half.
