Amazon’s been running its “Flex” delivery service on N.J. roads since 2017. But state officials just file a lawsuit accusing the company of shortchanging drivers on pay and sick leave since 2020.
Amazon recently opened a new delivery station in Colorado Springs near Garden of the Gods Road, supporting the company’s last-mile delivery efforts in the area. The facility features new conveyance technology and Rivian-brand electric delivery vehicles.
In 2022, Jake Clay started an Amazon delivery firm in Odessa, Texas, after hearing about the company’s program from a friend. He sank $75,000 into the business and earned more than $200,000 in the first year.
NJ sued, saying Amazon misclassified Flex drivers as freelancers rather than employees, which denies them benefits and avoids state taxes.
The service promises to drop off "everyday essentials" to shoppers doorsteps in 15 minutes, or as little as 6 minutes in some neighborhoods.
