Chess's international governing body said Wednesday it's considering disciplinary action against a former Russian world champion who persistently leveled unproven cheating allegations at Daniel Naroditsky in the year leading up to the American grandmaster’s death.

An American chess Grandmaster has died. Daniel Naroditsky, an accomplished player and teacher with the Charlotte Chess Center, passed away unexpectedly, according to the organization.

Naroditsky’s untimely death has shined a spotlight on the dark underbelly of the game that fellow pros say brought undue criticism and hostility upon the chess star in his final months.
