Baron said she is pushing for the adoption of Senate Bill 494, which would direct the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to create a statewide database of animal abusers. “The registry is the thing that’s going to be the kicker, make the difference throughout the state," she said.

State lawmakers are looking to establish an animal abuse database. SB 494 would require the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to post on its website the names of people who have been convicted of or have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

If SB 494 passes, anyone convicted of or who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty crimes in Florida would be added to a public registry.
