Fix Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open PDF because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged error on PC.

You can allow or block Microsoft Edge from opening PDF files externally by changing some settings using Registry Editor or Group Policy Editor in Windows 11/10.

However, this default setting makes it difficult to open multiple PDF files in separate windows. You can change this setting within Acrobat and force PDF documents to open in new windows.

If you keep Chrome up-to-date without changing any settings, any PDF you download may open within the web browser by default.
