Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire has agreed to a new contract that will run through the 2032 season and average at least $6.8 million per year, a Tech athletics spokesman said on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The general counsel for Texas Tech, whose athletic department has thrived thus far in the name, image and likeness era, has advised the school that it should not sign a College Sports Commission agreement requiring schools to comply with its new enforcement model.

Texas Tech also jumped in the rankings, soaring to No. 5 — the Red Raiders’ first appearance in the AP Top Five since 2008.
