The 2nd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities occurs in Kazakhstan, later this month. The tournament is a requirement for chess to become an Olympic sport but not a guarantee.

A 12-year-old girl from Halifax faced the world’s No. 2 chess player, Hikaru Nakamura, during a tournament in P.E.I — and gave him a tough fight.

Daniel Naroditsky began to play chess when he was six years old. He was taught the ropes by his father in their San Mateo, California home. He was drawn to chess fast and at only 11 years old, he was already competing and winning local events.
