For the first time, the state known for glaciers, dogsledding and northern lights issued a heat advisory, with Fairbanks pushing the mid-80s.

With temperatures rising to around 86 degrees in Fairbanks, residents in Alaska got their first-ever heat advisory.

However, on Sunday, June 22, parts of the state will be under their first-ever heat advisory. Fairbanks in central Alaska is expected to see temperatures top 85 degrees Fahrenheit over the weekend, which officials said is unusual for June.
