CSU gave the Mountain West Conference The Boot. But its annual football rivalry game with Wyoming is back on its feet. The athletic directors for the Rams and Cowboys announced a contract to renew the longstanding rivalry series Thursday.

Friday marks the 116th meeting between Colorado State and Wyoming football in The Border War game. The schools announced the rivalry will continue with eight more games between 2028 and 2035.

Army Capt. Daniel J. Romero, a Pueblo native, wore the boot while serving in Vietnam. He offered up his boot upon returning home and being assigned to the ROTC program at Colorado State University. Every year since 1968, the trophy has gone to the winning football team in the Border War rivalry between Wyoming and CSU.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (PRESS RELEASE) - University of Wyoming Director of Athletics Tom Burman announced Thursday at the Bronze Boot Run that Wyoming and Colorado State will play the annual “Border War” contest in Football starting in 2028 running through 2035.

Clay Nanke isn’t the person to ask about the emotions of hoisting the Bronze Boot. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end spent three seasons at Colorado State before transferring to the University of Wyoming this season.
