NYPD starting first wave of overnight subway patrols as part of Hochul safety plan
The NYPD is set to deploy dozens of additional officers throughout the MTA overnight starting Monday night as part of the governor’s latest plan to address safety. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the phased approach subway safety last week during her State of the State address.
Phase 1 of Gov. Hochul’s subway safety plan begins
It’s the first phase of Gov. Hochul’s subway safety plan in NYC. Subway riders who spoke with News 12 said it's a step in the right direction. Additional phases will be rolled out over the coming weeks with the expectation that the full operation will be complete by the end of the month.

The $77 million strategy will put 750 more police officers on platforms and in stations and 300 more officers on overnight trains.
Gov. Hochul wants a cop on every overnight NYC subway train
In a statement, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Hochul’s plan will allow for two officers to ride every overnight train. But she said more needs to be done to deal with the ongoing issue of repeat offenders who commit a disproportionate number of crimes in the subways, which she called the “root of the issue.”
