Aims to synthesise materials directly without creating a precursor for LFP battery cathode material production

Hyundai and Kia are to launch a project to develop lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cathode material manufacturing technology in Korea; along with Hyundai Steel and EcoPro Bm, the four-year project aims to synthesize materials directly, reducing emissions during manufacturing and lowering production costs

Developing a homegrown lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack could keep the automakers competitive and reduce dependence on Chinese materials.

The initiative could establish a stable domestic supply chain for LFP battery materials, enhancing supply chain security in South Korea. The companies expressed hope that this project will improve both national technological competitiveness and that of Hyundai Motor Group.
