The TSA is ending its long-standing requirement for passengers to remove their shoes during airport security checks, a policy in place since 2006 following the "shoe bomber" incident. Advancements in security technology and a layered approach to threat detection have made the rule unnecessary for all passengers.

As of Tuesday, passengers at U.S. airports are no longer required to remove their shoes during the TSA screening process.

TSA will allow passengers to keep their shoes on when they go through the general security line at many major airports across the country.
