The California Justice Department warns that flawed urine test kits used since 2016 may have caused false-positive DUI results.

Faulty urine samples were linked to nine cases in Sonoma County and two in Napa County. The California Department of Justice says the error was discovered in September 2025.

Following an audit, however, the state Justice Department determined only a small number of cases involved the faulty urinalysis tests and needed to be reviewed.
