Apple says it will stop offering an advanced data security option for British users after the government reportedly demanded that the company provide backdoor access for any data those users have stored in the cloud.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is removing its advanced, end-to-end encrypted security feature for cloud data in the U.K. after it was ordered by the government to create a so-called 'back door' to access user data.

Apple is to remove its highest level of data protection from customers in the UK following a Government demand for access to user data. The tool, known as Advanced Data Protection (ADP), end-to-end encrypted the “majority” of user files that were uploaded to the cloud, meaning that only the account holder could access them.
