All eyes in the mobile world are currently focused on the Samsung Galaxy S25 range, but don’t lose sight of a bargain elsewhere – especially if it’s the outgoing top model. I’ve had my eyes on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra over the past month,

The S25 Ultra is lighter at 218g compared to the 233g that the S24 Ultra weighs. In addition, the S25 Ultra has a more rounded, flat design when compared to the S24 Ultra. Samsung says that the S25 Ultra is 0.4 mm thinner than the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is an AI phone through and through, for better or worse. At a starting price of $1,300, does it still deserve a spot in your pocket?

The similarities are enough to keep you confused while making the purchase decision and whether you should go with S25 Ultra – the latest and greatest from the company or choose last year’s Galaxy S24 Ulltra which appears to be a value-for-money offering at the reduced price.

Samsung has crafted a pre-order strategy that makes acquiring the Galaxy S25 Ultra almost too good to be true: no joke, you can get it almost for free. When you compare it to competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro (the 512GB version is sold for $1,299), the value proposition becomes very attractive.

The rear camera array represents the only other notable hardware difference between S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra. Namely, the ultrawide lens has been upgraded from 12MP a year ago to 50MP this year. Aside from that, everything else is the same: a 200MP wide lens, 50MP telephoto lens, and 12MP selfie camera.

All this to say the Galaxy S25 ($800), Galaxy S25+ ($1,000), and Galaxy S25 Ultra ($1,300) are powerful, reliable, and well-equipped smartphones. They're excellent upgrades if you're coming from a three or four-year-old device. They're just not otherwise interesting or exciting.
