LIVERPOOL, England (Reuters) -Holders Liverpool punched their return ticket to Wembley and a League Cup final against Newcastle United after a 4-0 rout, and 4-1 aggregate victory, over a toothless Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Thursday.

Newcastle have the opportunity to end an extended domestic trophy drought that stretches all the way back to 1955, when they won the FA Cup. They have never won the League Cup but have reached the final twice before, losing to City in 1976 and to Manchester United in 2023.
