China now faces U.S. tariffs of up to 245%, the White House said last night as it unveiled a probe into critical minerals. But that total appears to apply only to two types of goods—electric vehicles and syringes—and isn’t new.

Trump's most recent tariffs, which affected almost all U.S. trade partners, increased import taxes on Chinese goods to 104%. Beijing responded with additional tariffs on U.S. imports, raising the total levy to 84% set to take effect within hours.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced late Friday that some smartphones, computers, chips and other electronics would be exempted from tariffs, but Trump's top economic advisers hit the Sunday talk shows to explain the policy, saying that tariffs against electronics would be coming in the next month or two.
