The gunman in a fatal attack at Florida State University had a history of espousing radical right-wing conspiracy theories and hateful ideas.

Police said the alleged gunman is the son of a sheriff’s deputy, whose handgun he allegedly used during the shooting.

The two people who died were not students at the university, but the shooter is believed to be a student, Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower.

The school sent out an alert asking students to shelter in place as police responded to reports of an active shooter on its Tallahassee campus.
