Update: Monte Fire in San Diego County at 25% containment
Monte Fire initially started 2:59 p.m. June 17 in San Diego County, California. Since its discovery 39 hours ago, it has burned 976 acres. By Thursday morning, a fire crew of 433 effectively contained 25% of the fire. However, investigations into the cause are ongoing.
The brush fire referred to as the Monte Fire burning near Lakeside has grown to more than 1,000 acres in its third day.
The fire was about 25% contained and officials said they planned to drop firefighters onto the steep terrain by helicopter.
