The sheriff of San Mateo County has asked the president of the county’s Board of Supervisors for an independent investigation of County Executive Mike Callagy for alleged interference in her office that she said is undermining her authority.

The San Mateo County Sheriff, Christina Corpus, and her colleagues have gone back and forth for weeks, including firings, hirings, investigations and allegations regarding discrimination, misconduct and abuse of power.

A statement issued Friday on behalf of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors said Sheriff Christina Corpus may have dismissed Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan as retaliation for participating in an outside investigation of the Sheriff's Office. Corpus responded that the board "is completely out of line" and "pure speculation."

Elected officials on Tuesday also said the state should be notified of “matters related to the sheriff’s office.”
