Whole Foods’ cult cake dates back to 2002, when Chaya Conrad, then the bakery team leader of a Whole Foods in New Orleans, created the Berry Chantilly cake. Inspired by a cream cheese frosting her grandmother would make, Ms. Conrad layered a delicate yellow cake with berries and whipped up a cream frosting enriched with mascarpone and cream cheese.

Whole Foods Market confirmed Friday that while they won't be discontinuing the popular Berry Chantilly cake, they have changed the recipe.

The Texas-based grocers ' Berry Chantilly cake is a layered dessert topped with fluffy whipped frosting and dotted with blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries, lending a satisfying tartness to the sweet almond-y sponge itself.

Whole Foods decided not to mess with its beloved berry Chantilly cake after hearing from unhappy customers, a spokesperson tells Axios New Orleans. Why it matters: The Texas-based grocer says the slices will revert to the classic recipe by the end of the week.
