WATCH: Wildfire season is underway in California as different parts of the state are currently fighting major fires in their respective regions. Southern California near Bakersfield is fighting the Borel Fire while Northern California is fighting the Park Fire in Chico. Both have low containment percentages as of July 31. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) continues to support projects that enhance the health of California’s landscapes and forests. Since 2017, CAL FIRE has awarded over $700 million in Forest Health grants, and now applications are open for the next round of funding.
