Back in 1909, when the Mast Store Annex was constructed, it was a competitor of the Mast Store. The Watauga Supply Co., later the Valle Crucis Company, carried many of the same items found at the Mast Store, along with some that were not. In 1982, friends of the Coopers who owned the Annex at that time, presented them with an opportunity. First, the bridge was out and it was a 20-minute-plus drive to get to the Original Mast Store.
