I usually start an illustration with a pencil sketch, especially if it is a complex scene like this one. This is the stage where I work out the perspective and make any changes to the composition. In this case I moved a restaurant so that the mountains and sea are visible. After I am happy with the pencil sketch, I complete the drawing with waterproof ink.
